Just what I wanted for a new iPhone. A special “Thank You” to artist ‘Serge Averbukh’ for the addition, at my request, to the design of my Navy rating, the lightening bolts (sparks as they are/were called) in the middle of the CPO insignia. I asked; he came through….When I use my phone, it brings back fond memories of my 20-year Navy career…. Thanks Serge….

“Ragged But Right” plows through heavy flak over the target at the moment of bomb release. So named by the crew, but the name or nose art was never applied, likely due to the heavy ops tempo, ‘Ragged But Right’ was a Douglas-built Boeing B-17G-70-DL Flying Fortress (44-6888) that flew with the 96th Bomb Group's 337th Bomb Squadron. On 11 May, the Fort was heavily damaged in a crash landing near their home base at Snetterton Heath, Norfolk. This painting was commissioned by the grandson of 1Lt. Joseph “Philly” Denver, her bombardier. The family also owns the final concept drawing for this project (see in Drawings album).
The 96th Bomb Group (Square “C” symbol on the tail) was one of the 8th Air Force’s most experienced bombardment groups, flying their first mission on 14 May 1943. By...
Wade Meyers spent his early years at Fort Bragg, North Carolina before his family moved to Bossier City, La. when he was ten years old. Fulfilling a dream, Wade soloed a Cessna 150 at age 17 and went on to earn his Commercial and Flight Instructor pilot certificates. After high school, he earned a B.A. in History from Louisiana State University in Shreveport while serving in the US Air Force Reserve at Barksdale Air Force Base. With marriage came a move to the beautiful Birmingham, Alabama area. Diving in head first, Wade quit his job at an aviation museum in 2003 and began to work full-time as an aviation artist. He started accepting commissions immediately, and to this day his work is primarily commission-driven. Along with his...
